Currently, the collection rate of domestic waste in Quang Nam province is quite high. Thereby, it contributes to reducing environmental pollution, significantly overcoming the situation of indiscriminate littering into the environment, and eliminating many spontaneous public garbage spots.
The People’s Committee of Quang Nam province has recently directed the implementation of a number of urgent environmental treatment projects such as the project for closing the Dai Hiep waste storage and treatment area; The Nam Quang Nam Solid Waste Treatment Park project is in the process of technology appraisal and is expected to come into operation in 2024; Bac Quang Nam municipal solid waste treatment plant with a designed capacity of 300 tons/day, is invested by Huy Hoang Eco Environment Joint Stock Company (which has been put into operation), applying combined technology, recycling, and recover resources from waste; Hoi An MSW treatment plant project with a capacity of 120 tons/day is invested by DMC-579 Quang Nam Environment Investment and Energy Development Joint Stock Comp., with a registered investment capital of about VND 490 billion.
One of the critical waste issues is that in mountainous districts, small-scale landfills serve the central communes of the district, except Nam Tra My, which have not yet invested in sanitary landfills. MSW is treated at temporary landfills, therefore, the risk of a “crisis” of waste is still hidden.
