The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) – UNDP Accelerator Lab has released the message “Journey in innovation from the community” to honor grassroots innovators around the globe in solving challenges on local environmental issues, in which Ms. Trinh Thi Hong (founder of Minh Hong Biotech) has taken initiatives to turn waste into organic products, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while opening up working opportunities for poor women. When the garbage truck encountered a problem and could not come to collect trash, Ms. Trinh Thi Hong and people in her neighborhood in Da Nang city suffered from the unpleasant odor. Therefore, Hong collected fruit peels and vegetable scraps to produce shampoo, shower gel, dishwashing, and floor cleaning liquid. From this experiment, she came up with the idea of making non-toxic sanitation products from fruit peels and other food waste. The results are remarkable when her facility processes about 109 tons of waste to create more than 50,000 liters of organic cleaning products per month. Currently, Minh Hong Biotech has 100 agents and 5 distributors; 8 products; attracting 140 households to participate in family production; 5 employees import preparations, createconsistency and standards of the Ministry of Health at the company.
