Vietnam will join the Plastic Pollution Treaty

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has agreed to the policy of participating in negotiating a Global Treaty on Plastic Pollution and assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to chair and coordinate with line ministries and agencies for planning and negotiating.

Participating in the negotiation of the Global Agreement on Plastic Pollution, it is expected that Vietnam’s Negotiating Committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Public Security, VCCI, and Production Associations.

MONRE will be responsible for managing and presiding over negotiations on mechanisms, policies, and laws on waste management (including plastic waste and ocean plastic waste); recycling, reuse, and disposal of plastic waste; waste, plastic waste, and ocean plastic waste management; reduction, collection, transport, and treatment; manufacturers and importers recycling responsibility for plastic products, plastic packaging (EPR); Eco-label for environmentally friendly plastic bags and environmentally friendly products; deposit-refund system to increase recycling, reuse of plastic waste; Model to promote the development of a circular economy in plastic waste recycling and reuse; plastic scrap import as raw materials for production.
