Creating a Sustainable Circular Economy for Plastic Waste in Vietnam

On February 8, Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with iDE to report the implementation results in 2022 and agreed on a 2023 work plan for the project “Creating a Sustainable Circular Economy for Plastic Waste in Vietnam”

The objective of the project is to make a positive contribution to the implementation of the Da Nang – Environmental City Scheme as well as the segregation at-source of domestic solid waste and the management of the city’s plastic waste.

In 2023, the Project Management Unit will coordinate with localities and facilities to implement solutions in order to increase the rate of plastic recovery from plastic waste by 10.5%; continue to connect 300 plastic waste collectors with collection and recycling units; train 100 collectors on plastic business responsibility; support and connect commercial partners in the project to participate in international seminars and exhibitions… in order for seeking opportunities and promoting demand and outputs for recycled plastic products.

By strengthening a sustainable and desirable market for recycled plastic, the project will help to ensure that informal waste collectors and their families have long-lasting livelihood improvements and that ocean-bound plastic will become obsolete.

This project and other initiatives can be explored and obtained experiences to engage the private sector such as producers and importers, plastic recycling businesses, and investors in reducing plastic pollution.
