Taking an effort to complete the guideline on municipal solid waste segregation at the source

On the afternoon of April 26, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan chaired a meeting and listened to the Department of Environmental Pollution Control reporting on developing a draft technical guideline for solid waste segregation.

The draft technical guideline on solid waste sorting is built based on the experiences of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, the US, and some provinces and cities in Vietnam, such as Ho Chi Minh city. Hanoi, Da Nang, Lao Cai, Bac Ninh.

Moreover, the technical guidance on MSW segregation is structured into four main parts: Purpose, scope, and users; Basis for solid waste sorting; Detailed guidelines on solid waste segregation and implementing organization. Regarding the detailed segregation of solid waste, the draft guideline outlines three main groups: Recyclable and reusable Waste, food waste, and other domestic solid waste. Each group has a list of commonly found types of waste generated in households, illustrations, and techniques when sorting.

Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan asked to clarify the sorting purposes, sorting principles, and detailed techniques in the segregation of solid waste so that the provinces and cities, based on the contents, concretize and implement under local practice.
